The Classic
Warm your cup, add saffron according to the recipe you are following, and pour water just off the boil. Wait five minutes, watch the gold spread, then sip slowly. Optional: add rock candy or honey, as served to honoured guests in Herat.
The Saffron Ritual
In Afghanistan, saffron isn't a garnish — it's how a house welcomes a guest. A few threads, water just off the boil, and five minutes of doing nothing at all while the gold spreads out through the cup. This is the whole practice. There is nothing else to learn.
Three ways to brew
One gram of Super Negin makes roughly sixty cups. Start with the classic; the other two are what you'll drift into.

Steep 5 threads in 2 tbsp of hot water for 10 minutes. Warm a cup of milk — any kind — then add the saffron water, a spoon of honey and a pinch of cardamom.
3 threads, steeped long, with chamomile. Saffron brings aroma, color, and a deliberate pause to an evening cup. This is a culinary ritual, not a health treatment.
A simple culinary ritual centered on saffron's color, aroma, and Herati heritage.
We sell saffron, not medicine. Nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Why it works
Crocin is the compound that turns the water gold, and it is also one of the three numbers a laboratory measures to grade saffron. A cup that goes deep gold slowly, from threads that stay crimson, is a cup showing a strong saffron color release. Kitchen color release is an observation, not laboratory certification.
Brewing questions

Just off the boil — around 90°C / 195°F. Boiling water drives off safranal, which is most of the aroma. If you have a variable-temperature kettle, use the green-tea setting.

Both work. Water shows the colour better and is the traditional Herati serve; milk carries the aroma further and makes the golden latte. Bloom in water first either way — saffron releases more in water than in fat.
